Welcome to GrandParents United DE, Inc.

GrandParents United is a non-profit resource and referral organization that has been serving Delaware since 1999.  In its conception, GPU was formed to help caregivers who seek support and guidance caring for their relative children.  GPU continues to collaborate with many local and national organizations, providing various programs, up-to-date kinship care news, online support, newsletters, workshops, and appropriate resources for caregivers. GPU has empowered caregivers with the knowledge to make the best choices and use the best practices with available resources.  Through advocacy, education, and information, we can make an impact on relative caregivers’ lives continuing to build healthy families while keeping family ties.

Our Mission

Is to care for the children who are related to our families and whom have already been deemed at risk by our Family Courts.  Many are due to abuse, neglect or have been abandoned by parents who are unable or unwilling to provide a healthy atmosphere to nurture these children. We also work with caregivers of children who may be in care due to incarceration or death of a parent and or parents.

       Our Goals

§ To provide safe secure homes for our relative children who have suffered the trauma of being abused and or neglected by their parents or others who have responsibility for their care.

§
To protect our at risk relative children from being placed in foster care without family ties.

§
To promote awareness of the resources and requirements of all relative caregivers who assume the responsibility for the care of these children.

§
To provide support and help navigate all kinship caregivers through  what can be a complicated system and to continue supporting these families to ensure the best possible outcome for the children in care as well as each caregiver.
